AccessibilityOctober 2026

TOEM 2 doesn't have options to stop you falling off edges, snap to ladders, or skip platforming sections. On September 29, 2026, the developer Something We Made said they hope to add options like "snap to ladder/autoclimb" in the future, but were focused on the release. Until then, moving the camera directly behind your character is the most useful workaround for ladders.

What's harder than in the first TOEM?

A player with disabilities who tried the demo listed what made TOEM 2 harder for them than TOEM:

  • Falling off map edges. They kept walking off the edge of areas and asked for a toggle to turn it off.
  • Climbing ladders. You jump up a ladder several times instead of jumping on and pressing up, and it's easy to jump off the side.
  • Platforming sections that need more coordination, with the balloons singled out by the developer as "probably the worst thing to encounter platforming wise."

What did the developer say?

Replying on Steam on September 29, Something We Made said balancing this had been hard, that they have disabled friends and understand the struggle, and that they hope to add accessibility options like snap to ladder or auto-climb later. They also floated a teleport option once you've visited the bean slurp NPC. None of the patch notes up to Patch 1.0.8 (October 7, 2026) mention them.

What helps right now?

Put the camera behind your character on ladders. The same player found they fell off ladders far less with the camera directly behind the character. Since Patch 1.0.7 (October 1), the overworld camera rotates by holding left click, the same as elsewhere.

Change the camera controls if they're awkward. Patch 1.0.7 also lets you swap the Zoom and Pan buttons inside the camera menu. For other control fixes, see Mouse Controls.

Use the full walkthrough for the hard bits. The Complete Walkthrough shows where each climbing section is, so you know what's coming. For the climbing challenge with the flag, see Find the Flag.

If you'd like to add your voice to the request for these options, the developer's reply is on the game's Steam discussion thread "Accessibility of TOEM2 vs TOEM".
